Parents Are The Best Teachers.

Task:

Throughout my life (suốt cuộc đời của tôi), I have been lucky enough to have a very good relationship (mối quan hệ) with my parents. They have supported (nuôi nấng) me, given me necessary criticism (lời bình phẩm), and taught me agreat deal (nhiều) about how to live my life. Parents can be very important teachers in our lives; however, they are not always the best teachers.

Parents may be too close (gần gũi) to their children emotionally (một cách xúc động). Sometimes they can only see their children though the eyes of a protector (người bảo vệ, bảo hộ). For example, they may limit (hạn chế) a child's freedom (quyền tự do) in the name of safety (nhân danh sự an toàn). A teacher might see a trip to a big city as a valuable (quý báu) new experience. However, it might seem too dangerous (nguy hiểm) to a parent.

Another problem (vấn đề khác) is that parents may expect (nghĩ rằng) their children's interests (quyền lợi, sự quan tâm) to be similar (tương tự) to their own. They can't seem to separate from (tách rời) their children in their mind (tâm trí). If they love science (khoa học), they may try to force (bắt buộc) their child to love science too. But what if their child's true love is art (nghệ thuật), or writing (nghề viết văn - văn chương), or car repair (sữa chữa)?

Parents are usually eager (hăng hái, nhiệt tình) to pass (chuyển) on their value (nguyên tắc) to their children. But should children always believe (tin thưởng) what their parents do? Maybe (có lẽ) different generations (thế hệ) need different ways of thinking (cách suy nghĩ). When children are young, they believe that their parents are always rights (đúng đắn). But when they get older (lớn hơn), they realize (nhận thức rõ) there are other views (quan niệm, cách nhìn nhận). Sometimes parents, especially (nhất là, đặc biệt là) older ones, can't keep up with (theo kịp) rapid (nhanh chóng) social (thuộc xã hội) or technology (công nghệ) changes (sự thay đổi). A student who has friends of all different races (dòng dõi) and backgrounds (tầng lớp xã hội) at school may find that her/ his parents don't really understand (hiểu) or value (coi trọng) the digital revolution (cuộc cách mạng kĩ thuật số). Sometimes kids have to find their own ways to what they believe in.

The most important thing to realize is that we all have many teachers in our lives. Our parents teach us, our teachers teach us, and our peers (bạn thân - người cùng tuổi) teach us. Books andnewspapers and television also teach us. All of them are valuable.
